2017 was an interesting year in the hobby for me. I started this blog, began revamping my collection, and met some really great people through here and the Trading Card Database. At the beginning of 2017 I set a few goals for myself (well, two really). Let's see how I did?

Goal 1: Complete my Jeff Peterek player collection (16 cards).
How I did: A+! With a SportsLots order that I placed just before leaving for the holidays, I should have this done. The cards are waiting for me in my mailbox when I return on the 7th, and barring a mixup with a 1990 CMC green/yellow back (I'll explain when I get the cards), I will have all 16 cards and be done.

Goal 2: Complete my Ralf Mojsiejenko player collection (23 cards).
How I did: Giving myself a B on this one. In that same SportsLots order, I picked up three more Mojsiejenko cards, moving myself to 20 of the 23. I'm still missing the 1989 Panini UK Stickers, 1990 FACT Pro Set Cincinnati, and one other sticker from the 1980s, which aren't super easy to find, so I'm not mad that I didn't finish it, but I could have paid more attention as the year went on. I spent most of the year focusing on my Peterek collection though.

So all in all, a productive 2017, as I continued to add to my autographs, began some sets, and kept building my player collections. So, without further ado, let's take a look at what I want to accomplish in 2018.

I essentially broke these goals down into different levels for each.

Player Collections

Ralf Mojsiejenko: Finish player collection (3 cards to go)

Matt Mantei: Get to 100 different cards (82 cards to go)

Joique Bell: Get to 100 different cards (98 cards to go)

Dan LeFevour: Get to 100 different cards (98 cards to go)

Shawn Green: Get to 200 different cards (95 to go) + Add one autograph
I'd like to add two of the same Green autograph cards (one for my PC binder and one for my autograph binder).

Buster Posey: Get to 150 different cards (83 cards to go) + Add one autograph and one memorabilia card.

Derek Jeter: Get to 100 different cards (35 to go) + add a memorabilia card

Joey Votto: Get to 100 different cards (50 to go) + add a memorabilia card

Mickey Mantle: Get to 100 different cards (50 to go) + add a vintage Mantle

Tom Brady: Get to 200 different cards (75 to go)

Team Collections

Reds: Complete, page, and binder all base Topps flagship sets from 1980-2018 (including subsets)

Lumberkings: Complete all team sets from 2010-2018.

1988 Fleer: Complete (35 cards to go)

1994 Upper Deck Fun Pack: Complete (46 to go)

1994 Classic: Complete

2017 Topps Opening Day: Complete

In addition, complete 2016 and 2018 Topps Opening Day to start working on my Opening Day run.

NASCAR: Significantly grow my NASCAR collection, which was given a huge boost by Billy Kingsley, something that I will cover soon. This is a new venture for me as I'm looking forward to getting back in watching NASCAR and collecting it for the first time.

Wallet Card: I would like to start a wallet card. I believe that this is something pretty self-explanatory. A card that one keeps in his or her wallet and takes a picture of at cool landmarks. I have a few that I want to hit on the way back from California (details in a later post) so if anyone could shed some extra light on any details of a wallet card, I would appreciate it!

I think that about covers it for 2017/2018 for me. Everyone, please be safe and careful tonight. Call a cab, Uber, or a DD to get home tonight. It isn't worth it. Other than that, have a great New Year, and as always, thanks for reading!

And today brings to a close the 25 Days of Giving. I had a lot of fun doing this, and it was really cool to meet and know some new collectors. I truly wish everyone could have won something. We have one more randomization to go today, and then it's on to the process of getting things sealed up and mailed out. May not get everything today, but hopefully I can get most of them. I left my address book in Missouri, so I may also need a few addresses, but will be reaching out if I do.

Without further ado, we had two last autograph cards to give away...

There were 8 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. CaptKirk42
  2. John Sharp
  3. The Lost Collector
  4. Brett Alan
  5. Kin
  6. Wrigley Roster Jenga
  7. Cooler Brian
  8. IfbBirdsCards
Timestamp: 2017-12-26 16:12:26 UTC
You have randomized this list 25 times.

Congratulations to CaptKirk42 for winning the first spot. His choice was the Lansing, so Ian will end up with the Rusch instead.

A few notes as we wrap this up:

1) Thank you for all of the kind comments. I did a really bad job at responding to them, but I would like to offer a collective "you're welcome" to all of the thank-you comments we had. Again, I really had fun with this, and I'm glad it worked smoothly. Additionally, I'd like to offer a collective "thank you" to all who participated, whether it was once, twice, or all 25 days.

2) I'm going to be taking a brief hiatus from posting. As much fun as this was, it isn't easy getting a post up every day, and can actually take a lot out of you. Luckily I didn't lose my excitement for blogging, but even Gavin at Baseball Card Breakdown has said the same thing: so many posts around the holidays can take a toll. I'll be getting something up around New Years with my 2018 collecting goals, but expect some quiet time these next few days.

3) I'm linking a Google Doc with all of our winners here. If you check it immediately it may not be updated (I fell behind and need to do some catching up). But it can serve as a reference point, and I'll dig it out again next year when I get ready to do this again.

Again, thanks for participating, thanks for reading, and I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and it rolls right into a Happy New Year (additionally, happy Boxing Day to our Canadian friends!)

Alright, one last day. Let's get it started with taking a quick look at yesterday's winners!

There were 8 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Kin
  2. Sports Card Collectors
  3. IfbBirdsCards
  4. The Lost Collector
  5. Brett Alan
  6. Cooler Brian
  7. John Sharp
  8. Wrigley Roster Jenga
Timestamp: 2017-12-25 15:44:33 UTC
You have randomized this list 24 times.

Kin wins another one and claims the 1988 Topps Duncan. Wrigley Roster Jenga takes home the bottom spot and requested the Jeff Reed card. Congratulations to both!

Moving on to today, let's go ahead and give away the last two of the original six autograph cards.

Glendon Rusch and Mike Lansing are the last two left today, so leave me a comment telling me which one you want if you win!

On a serious note, Merry Christmas to all of you. I appreciate all of you readers, and enjoy your day today. As always, thanks for reading, and I hope Santa leaves cards for all of you.

Alright, another quick one today because of the holidays, so let's jump right into it and see who wins the two autograph cards from yesterday.

There were 8 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Kin
  2. Trevor P
  3. John Sharp
  4. IfbBirdsCards
  5. Sports Card Collectors
  6. Jafronius
  7. The Lost Collector
  8. Cooler Brian
Timestamp: 2017-12-24 15:21:18 UTC
You have randomized this list 23 times.

Kin and Brian with another couple of wins. Kin wanted the Drabek, and Brian the Gonzo, so they both get their wish! Thanks to all who entered, and let's do it again today!

Same graphic with a couple of X's. Top spot gets their first choice of Duncan, Reed, Rusch, or Lansing. I know these aren't glamorous but thanks to my own goofs, this is all we have for the giveaways left. I can try and scrounge something up for tomorrow but definitely no guarantees. Also, tomorrow's post will go up a little late due to the holiday, but I'll have it up there.

As always, thanks for reading, be safe and careful on the roads, and if you start celebrating tonight, have fun!

Little late getting this post up today, but that happens. Anyway, remember how I said that I needed to get some scans up before leaving Missouri for two weeks? That didn't happen. I also forgot my trade box (although I did grab the cards that we've already given away, so I have those). That being said, these last three days won't be amazing giveaways, but we've got six more extra autographs to go these days.

That being said, six more winners in three days. I'm going to put up six autograph cards today, and the first and last name on the randomizer tomorrow gets their pick. The remaining four will go to the 24th, and the final two will be randomized on Christmas Day.

First though, let's deal with the Wagner and Campanella from yesterday!

There were 10 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Kin
  2. sandyrusty
  3. Brett Alan
  4. John Sharp
  5. IfbBirdsCards
  6. TSHenson
  7. Cooler Brian
  8. Jafronius
  9. CaptKirk42
  10. Jeff S.
Timestamp: 2017-12-23 16:30:59 UTC
You have randomized this list 22 times.

Kin wins the top spot, and Jeff S. takes home the bottom. Luckily for both of them, Kin wanted the Wagner while Jeff wanted the Campy, so they're both happy!

Actually a little mad at myself for not scanning these cards in before leaving Missouri. My phone takes terrible pictures. Moving past that, I know that cards such as these aren't as big of a draw, but we are dealing with limited cards at the moment (although I may be able to dig something up for the next two, we will see). We're giving away two of these cards tomorrow. In case you can't read names, the left column from top to bottom is Mariano Duncan, Luis Gonzalez, and Jeff Reed. Right column is Doug Drabek, Glendon Rusch, and Mike Lansing.

All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment telling me which signature you prefer. If the two winners both select the same one, I will contact the bottom spot and figure out a replacement within 24 hours. The remaining four cards will go up tomorrow.

I think that makes sense; if not, let me know and I'll try and explain further. As always, thanks for reading, have a restful Saturday, and Go Army, Beat SDSU!

Wrapping this up with just a few days left now. I do want to throw out a brief PSA; with the holiday rush and everything going on, I will be sending out the second half of this contest's winnings in stages. My goal is to have them done by New Year's, but I've tried doing stuff like that before. Regardless, I promise you winners that your cards are coming!

Speaking of winners, let's draw two more from the randomizer for the cards yesterday. We had 10 entrants (seems to be the average number) and two winners:

There were 10 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. William Carter
  2. CaptKirk42
  3. John Sharp
  4. TSHenson
  5. Jafronius
  6. sandyrusty
  7. Jeff S.
  8. Kin
  9. IfbBirdsCards
  10. Jason L.
Timestamp: 2017-12-22 14:15:13 UTC
You have randomized this list 21 times.

A name that is admittedly new to me, William Carter wins the top spot, getting him the Monte Irvin Panini Cooperstown card. Jason L. will be receiving the Hornsby card. Congratulations to those two, and thanks to all who entered!

Moving forward to today, before I leave town (which means that I won't have access to a scanner for a good couple of weeks, so I need to scan a few cards in for the rest of these giveaways), we are going with two more cards today, so another two winners.

First up is this 2009 Topps - Turkey Red #TR79 Roy Campanella. This isn't the Turkey Red set that Topps eventually came out with; instead, this was a 2009 insert, and I feel like the insert set spawned the base set a few years later (I think it was a few years) much like Topps Fire did in 2016/2017.

The other card available today is also from 2009 Topps, namely this 2009 Topps - Legends of the Game Career Best Legends #LGCB-HW Honus Wagner. Note to Topps: way too long of an insert name. But that's a different rant for a different time.

You know the drill by now; leave me a comment with your first choice of card, and the #1 spot in the randomizer tomorrow gets the card of their choice, while the bottom spot gets the other one.

It's Christmas weekend, so whether you celebrate or not, there's a lot of traveling that will be happening starting this evening, myself included. Please be careful out there. Remember that it's always better to arrive late than not at all, don't drink and drive, and above all, be aware of the weather and surroundings. Y'all have a great Friday, and as always, thanks for reading!

Happy first day of winter! Not sure about anywhere else, but Missouri (at least my part) has yet to see snow. I mean, we got a dusting a few weeks back, but that was gone overnight. Plenty cold however. This also marks the first of the final five giveaways this season; I wish I could say I have five epic 1/1 memorabilia autographed printing plate refractors to give away, but alas, I don't even have any of those in my own collection.

What I do have is another pair of Hall of Famers, so we can do another two-winner day. First though, let's see who won the History of the Game cards from yesterday.

There were 12 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. EP
  2. John Sharp
  3. ketchupman36
  4. IfbBirdsCards
  5. Cooler Brian
  6. Jay O'Neill
  7. CaptKirk42
  8. Kin
  9. TSHenson
  10. Jafronius
  11. Trevor P.
  12. sandyrusty
Timestamp: 2017-12-21 13:05:01 UTC
You have randomized this list 20 times.

Congratulations to EP on winning the top spot. His choice was the World Series card, so while sandyrusty finally got his "win" in the last spot, he will be receiving the Hall of Fame card instead. Thanks to all who entered!

Moving to today, we don't have two inserts, but two Hall-of-Famers nonetheless.

First up is a 1993 Ted Williams #91 Rogers Hornsby UER. As you'll notice, the error is located on the front of the card, where his name is spelled "Rodgers". The other card available today is the 2012 Panini Cooperstown #125 Monte Irvin. Two base cards, two Hall-of-Famers, and one easy entry method: just leave me a comment telling me which card you want to add to your collection if you win! The first name gets their first choice, while the last name on the list gets the other card.

Only four more giveaways after this one. I wouldn't say that I'm running low on stock by any stretch, but my goodness I never realized how many Yankees cards I had in my tradebox. But hey, I'm cutting down the numbers, and that will allow me to restock for the New Year.

As always, thanks for reading, stay warm and safe, and have a great Thursday. Good luck to all!

Post #73 - A Season of Giving, Day 20, and a Small Trade

I want to start today off by posting two cards that arrived Monday in a trade from TCDB user dsorek. A fellow Michigander, I sent off a 2017 Update Tigers World Series card in exchange for two Joey Votto cards:

The one on the left is from 2016 Opening Day, while the MLB Debut insert on the right is from 2016 flagship Series 2. These two cards bring my total Votto collection up to an even 50. Thanks for the trade, dsorek!

On to the giveaways, let's first randomize the names from yesterday. I had everyone put their first choice, so the name in the number 1 spot will get that choice, while the last name will get the other card.

There were 11 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Kin
  2. Sports Card Collectors
  3. Cooler Brian
  4. sandyrusty
  5. John Sharp
  6. TSHenson
  7. IfbBirdsCards
  8. CaptKirk42
  9. Jafronius
  10. Jason L
  11. Nachos Grande
Timestamp: 2017-12-20 16:27:08 UTC
You have randomized this list 19 times.

I know Kin said he is going to have this card sent somewhere else, so let me know where you want which one to go. Psst...I know the other winner (Nachos Grande) said he preferred the Mantle, if that makes your choice any easier!

One other note regarding yesterday, I was surprised at how split the choices were between the two cards. I figured most of the entries would be for the Mantle, but it seemed to be pretty darn close. Or maybe I'm just imagining that.

Anyway, let's see what's on tap from the ol' trade box today. Sticking with the two-card, two-winner system again, the first and last name will win. First name gets their choice first, and it would be easiest if you let me know with your entry which card you would prefer.

Still a baseball theme today, but stepping away from players and into the history of the game (literally). These two cards are from the 2010 Topps - History of the Game insert set, #HOTG5 and HOTG14. Card 5 celebrates the first World Series, while card 14 features the first Hall of Fame class from 1936. Again, just leave me a comment with your first choice, and we will random this off tomorrow.

As always, thanks for reading, have a great Wednesday, and stay safe!

I'll have a small trade recap tomorrow, but for today, let's go ahead and get two more cards and winners up. To start things off, yesterday's Pujols card drew a nice crowd, so let's see who won that die-cut beauty.

There were 11 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Sport Card Collectors
  2. Trevor P
  3. John Sharp
  4. Brett Alan
  5. Mark Zentkovich
  6. Kin
  7. TSHenson
  8. Cooler Brian
  9. Jay O'Neill
  10. sandyrusty
  11. CaptKirk42
Timestamp: 2017-12-19 13:15:26 UTC
You have randomized this list 18 times.

Congratulations to Sports Card Collectors on winning the Pujols die-cut! I will need your address, so get in touch with me at jasongerman9 [at] yahoo [.] com at some point. Just a reminder to all winners that the second half of this little contest thingy will be shipping out sometime around the 26th, after Christmas.

On to today, we are doing another two-card, two-winner giveaway. Here's how this will work. To enter today, please leave a comment telling me (a) which card you would like if you're the first name on the list. If you're the last name, you would receive the other card, obviously. Also, tell me (b) if you received your prizes from the first half of the contest if you were a winner. I know sandyrusty finally received my TCDB trade package, Ian and Mark both mentioned that the Gerrit Cole and Babe Ruth cards arrived, and I've seen blog posts from Tony and AJ acknowledging Kin's gift to them, but hopefully everyone else can let me know. I get very paranoid shipping PWE, because I worry that one stamp may not be enough and the post office can be user-unfriendly at this time of year.

Also also, I am still waiting to get that package off to Sigs for Soldiers for our winners of the autograph cards, mainly because I'm going to include a few other extra autographs that I have with it and am trying to save on postage. But that's ready to go too!

Anyway, here's what's up for grabs today. I hope y'all like M&M's...

Yup, the M&M boys are up (I'm gonna go watch 61* after work today now). We have a 2012 Topps #7 Mickey Mantle Error, and a 2012 Topps - Golden Moments #GM-32 Roger Maris. Again, all you have to do to enter is leave me a comment telling me which one you want if you win. The first name in the randomizer gets their choice; the last name gets the other one.

As always, thanks for reading, good luck, and have a great Tuesday!

Little late in getting this post up today, but hey, that's what happens when you're one week away from Christmas. Going to be brief today, so let's get right into seeing who pulled off the Yogi cards from yesterday!

There were 9 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. John Sharp
  2. Kin
  3. Trevor P
  4. IfbBirdsCards
  5. Sports Card Collectors
  6. sandyrusty
  7. Mark Zentkovich
  8. Fuji
  9. TSHenson
Timestamp: 2017-12-18 17:56:11 UTC
You have randomized this list 17 times.

The randomizer seems to be a fan of both John Sharp (who wins the Yankee Stadium Legacy card) and Timothy Henson (who wins the Baseball Legends card). Congratulations to both and thanks to all who entered!

Back to a quick one card giveaway today. Today's top name on the randomzier wins this:

A 2013 Topps "Cut to the Chase" #CTC-37 Albert Pujols. I lifted this scan from the TCDB as well (too lazy and short on time) so as you can see, it is a die-cut card. Again, the top name wins it, and all you have to do is leave a comment.

As always, thanks for reading, good luck to all who enter, and be safe out there if you're finishing up your Christmas shopping or dealing with snowy weather (the ground is still green here in Missouri).

Post #70 - A Season of Giving, Day 17, Plus My Favorite Card(s) of 2017

I cannot stress this enough: the two cards featured here at the beginning of this post are not the giveaway cards today. Although they would make a great prize, I'm keeping this puppies for my personal collection, although if I ever come across a second copy of either I may throw them out for grabs.

However, for right now, let's take a look at my two favorite cards from 2017 (and yes, they're both in my collection). This is in response to P-Town Tom's contest to show off your favorite card from 2017; the link to his original post can be found here.

While both these cards came in trades from other collectors, they are definitely shining centerpieces for my Buster Posey PC.

If I had to rank all the 2017 cards in my collection, from last to first, this card would probably come in #2. Normally not a fan of numbered, pointless parallels (I don't remember 1968 Topps having a chrome parallel?) the chrome really makes this picture pop. From the light bat color down to the orange and black Giants color scheme, chrome finish works well with this photo and card. Throw in that it is numbered /999, and that's a win in my book. This card came from Robert at $30 A Week, and it always makes me stop and stare every time I page through my PC binder.

However, this card would take the #1 countdown spot. This Topps Chrome pink refractor came over from Jason L. on Twitter in exchange for a couple of Braves. To begin with, I don't have a ton of Chrome in my collection. Even when it does become available around me, I can't justify the money it commands for just a few cards. So, all of my chrome cards come from trades or maybe repacks. When this card arrived in a bubble mailer, I was captivated. The chrome sheen is just flawless, and again, while parallels and refractors seem beyond pointless to me, I will still accept them into my collection. The photography is stunning, although Buster looks like he just got underneath one; I doubt it's leaving the yard.

So there you have it; my two favorite 2017 cards! I encourage you to blog about your own favorite and enter Tom's contest!

Okay, on to the giveaways today; first up, let's see the two names that won the Gehrig cards yesterday.

There were 7 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Mark Zentkovich
  2. TSHenson
  3. sandyrusty
  4. Kin
  5. Jeff S.
  6. IfbBirdsCards
  7. John Sharp
Timestamp: 2017-12-17 16:43:23 UTC
You have randomized this list 16 times.

Mark Z. wins the Yankee Stadium Legacy card, while John Sharp takes the Golden Greats! I'll set these aside for you guys, and as always, thanks to all who entered. On to today, with another two card, two winner giveaway.

Another Yankee legend here in Yogi Berra. The first name on the randomizer will win this 2009 Upper Deck - Yankee Stadium Legacy #YSL1986 Yogi Berra, while name number two

takes home this 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes #121 Yogi Berra. Two cards, two winners, and just over a week's worth of giveaways to go.

As always, thanks for reading and entering; this wouldn't be nearly as much fun without all of you. Keep plugging away, and remember that I'm going to try and hit a few wantlist matches from everyone's lists at some point over the first few months of the new year, so don't get frustrated!

Have a great Sunday, and good luck!

Still not having time to scan in my cards for P-Town Tom's contest, but that's my project after work this afternoon. Hopefully we can do that tomorrow; but for today, let's see who wins the Duke Snider card from yesterday!

There were 8 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Cooler Brian
  2. John Sharp
  3. Kin
  4. IfbBirdsCards
  5. CaptKirk42
  6. Jeff S
  7. sandyrusty
  8. TSHenson
Timestamp: 2017-12-16 16:22:59 UTC
You have randomized this list 15 times.

I'm not sure how many of these cards that Brian has won now, but he gets the Duke of Flatbush headed his way!

Today is going to be one of those two-card, two-winner giveaways that I mentioned. The first name on the list is going to walk away with this card below:

This 2008 Upper Deck "Yankee Stadium Legacy" #YSL979 Lou Gehrig will go to name number 1, while

the last name on the randomizer gets this 2012 Topps "Golden Greats #GG-5 Lou Gehrig. Now, if first and last place want to swap, I'm okay with that. But either way, #1 and #2 are both walking away with a Lou Gehrig insert.

I'm going to do a few more of these two card giveaways over the next 9 days (yeah, single digits until Christmas y'all) and while I originally planned a big one for Christmas Eve, that's going to have to wait, because I can't find the darn card. Regardless, we might be doing that one to kick off 2017, and that would have some bonus entry options. More details on that coming later.

I hope everyone has a great Saturday; enjoy the bowl games on today, take a load off, and finish up your Christmas preparations. As always, thanks for reading, and good luck!

Post #68 - A Season of Giving, Day 15, Plus Trading at the Database

TCDB user sandyrusty has been entering the giveaways here, and sometime in the first week or so he proposed a trade to me on the Database (very generous in my favor, I may add) and I received his half of the package from the trade the other day. Hopefully yours is arriving soon Bruno; I mailed it out last Thursday.

Let's see what my first trade across the border brought in!

First up, three new 1988 Fleer cards for the set build, which inches me closer. Yeah, that's a 2018 goal, preferably by the end of March; finish 1988 Fleer, stick it in a binder, and be done with it so we can move on!

Next up is two new Matt Mantei's for the PC. That was originally a 2018 goal, but with current situations, I'm going to adjust that a little bit. More details on these goals will be brought up at the end of the year/beginning of 2018.

Matt Mantei Card Count: 18/149 (12.1%)

And finally, a nice 14 card lot of Shawn Green to add to the PC. This pushes me up over 100 Shawn Green cards, and that's pretty cool! Thanks for the trade Bruno; once I get my tradelist revamped over the next few weeks, perhaps we can pull off another one!

Shawn Green Card Count: 105/4,124 (2.5%)

And now onto the Season of Giving. 11 comments yesterday, and randomized 14 times for the Ty Cobb card...

There were 11 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. TSHenson
  2. sandyrusty
  3. CaptKirk42
  4. John Sharp
  5. Jeff S.
  6. kcjays
  7. Kin
  8. IfbBirdsCards

You have randomized this list 14 times.

Congratulations to Timothy on winning the Cobb card! I will set this aside for another envelope with your name on it.

Moving on to today, we have another slugging Hall of Famer up for grabs...

This 2015 Topps "Stepping Up" #SU-2 Duke Snider card is yours for leaving a comment on this post! I'll randomize the list 15 times tomorrow morning and the top name walks away with it! Also wanted to throw out a PSA that I'll be doing a couple of two-card giveaways (like the Gwynn card on Day 2) coming up to 1) reduce inventory and 2) hopefully get some more winners.

A final note, the blog Cards on Cards is running a College Bowl Season Pick 'Em contest on ESPN, which I will be submitting my picks for tonight. You have until 9:00 PST tomorrow morning to get your picks in and join, so get to studying, picking, and ranking! Rules can be found on the linked post.

Hopefully everyone has a great Friday, thanks to sandyrusty for the trade, and as always, thanks for reading.

Another quick post this morning, as I'm pressed for time. For those of you wondering, I work at a call center for Swiss Colony. If you're familiar with SC, you can imagine how busy we are this time of year. If not, well, let's just say that once I (hopefully) start my career, I won't be dealing with this anymore!

Either way, let's get right to the giveaways. Hopefully I'll have some more time this weekend to recap a trade with Bruno (aka sandyrusty) and also to get my post up for P-Town Tom's "Favorite Card of 2017". Ah, I'm rambling again. Let's see who won Mr. Cub yesterday!

There were 12 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Jeff S.
  2. CaptKirk42
  3. Cooler Brian
  4. Jason L
  5. rrk1918
  6. John Sharp
  7. Trevor P.
  8. Kin

You have randomized this list 13 times.

And it looks like I get to return the favor to Jeff! I'm not sure that I saved your mailing address (although I'll double check) so I'll reach out to you if need be. Just a reminder that I mailed out most of the first half of the contest Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning, so this second half will ship out around the 27th or so.

Speaking of, if anyone knows how to get ahold of JD Pierce (the Ripken winner from the 6th) I would appreciate it. Can't seem to find his contact info to get an address.

Today's card is listed below. As usual, just leave me a comment to be entered to win...

This 2011 Topps - CMG Reprints #CMGR-27 Ty Cobb. Yet another card that isn't anything glamorous, but a fun insert of a Hall of Famer could be yours just for typing out a comment!

I'll randomize the list late tonight or early tomorrow 14 times, and the top name gets the card. As always, thanks for reading, have a great day, and good luck!

Post #66 - A Season of Giving, Day 13, Plus an Overdue Thank-You

I want to start today with the overdue thank you that I mentioned in the title. Jeff at Fan-Attic Sports Cards recently offered up some basketball cards to be randomized away, and since I'm a sucker for free cards (and saw the name Jordan) I jumped in. Since there were only three of us who entered, Jeff generously sent all three of us the same cards.

I borrowed the image Jeff used on his blog (sorry Jeff) because I was in a hurry scanning last night and my scans turned out awful. But these are the cards that arrived. An awesome Jordan MVP art checklist, a sweet Shaquille O'Neal insert, and some nice base cards of some big names. With my basketball collection getting an overhaul soon, I'm excited to see where these fit in. Thanks for the generosity Jeff!

Now on to the free stuff. Yesterday, the Musial card garnered seven entrants, and I've randomized them 12 days for the 12th day:

There were 7 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. John Sharp
  2. IfbBirdsCards
  3. kcjays
  4. Kin
  5. Cooler Brian
  6. EP
  7. Jeff S.

You have randomized this list 12 times.

The randomizer has been quite kind of John lately; congratulations on winning the Musial! And my thanks to all who entered. We've just passed the halfway point (and a multitude of PWEs were sent out this morning), so let's see what's on tap for the 13th day.

Today's prize is this 2006 Fleer Greats of the Game #34 Ernie Banks.  Per usual, all you have to do to win is leave me a comment! I had a great discussion that I thought of for today, but then I forgot it (I do stuff like that sometimes) so I'll have to try again tomorrow.

Good luck to all who enter, thanks for playing, and as always, thanks for reading!

One of these days I'll catch back up and do a post the night before, which means I can pay long overdue gratitude to Jeff S. from Fan-Attic Sports Cards and enter P-Town Tom's 2017 card contest. But until then I will have to make myself happy with pilfering scans from the TCDB and just throwing together a quick post every morning. Maybe tomorrow will be the day!

Regardless, here's a look at the 11 names that were randomized 11 times on the 11th day of giveaways; remember, the first name gets their pick of one of the five cards from yesterday, while the last name gets a pick afterwards.

There were 11 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. John Sharp
  2. Cooler Brian
  3. Jeff S.
  4. Tony Burbs
  5. Brian Boyd
  6. TSHenson
  7. Matt
  8. Jay O'Neill

  10. ketchupman36
  11. Kin

You have randomized this list 11 times.

The randomizer seems to favor John Sharp and Kin when it comes to autograph cards, although that was by default last time. Either way, John mentioned in the comments yesterday that he would like the Joe Oliver card sent to "Sigs for Soldiers"; Kin, that means you can take your pick of the other four. Let me know whatever you decide (once I get caught up on my TCDB messages).

On to today, back to the Hall-of-Famers and inserts theme. Again, with no time to scan I grabbed this from the TCDB

Today's card is this 2012 Topps "60 Years of Topps: The Lost Cards" #60YOTLC-10 Stan Musial. A "card that never was", the back describes Musial declining the Topps contract and thus how he never appeared in a Topps set. To win, just leave me a comment below saying you want it, and I'll randomize it off tomorrow!

As always, thanks for entering and reading; if you'd like to send me a wantlist at jasongerman9 [at] or send me a friend request on the Database, I'll always check and see if I can find something that I can send your way as well; this is the Season of Giving, after all!

Well first of all, thanks for the birthday wishes yesterday! They are very appreciated by all. Second, we had quite the turnout for the Nelson Cruz card; maybe switching back to baseball did some good! So, without being too wordy, let's go ahead and throw the names into the randomizer and see who winds up with the card!

There were 17 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Cooler Brian
  2. John Sharp
  3. EP
  4. Josh D.
  5. Mark Pommenville
  6. Jay O'Neill
  7. ketchupman36
  8. Angus
  9. Sportzcommish
  10. TSHenson
  11. Jon

You have randomized this list 10 times.

As always, thanks to all who entered, and congratulations to Cooler Brian on winning the Cruz card!

Per usual, I wish I could send you all this card, and as I've mentioned before, even those who don't win a giveaway this month I'm going to try and touch at least a card or two off of your want list.

Now on to today. We've got five cards showing, and we're going to do the same thing that I did Saturday. The first name randomized will get their choice of one of the following autographed cards, while the last name randomized will get their pick after the winner. The other three we will save until closer to the end.

If you land atop the randomizer, you get your choice of a Doug Drabek, Glendon Rusch, Jeff Reed, Joe Oliver or Mariano Duncan TTM signature. Nothing glamorous but a card with some ink on it is always fun.

That being said, enter in the comments, and feel free to share the blog. We might do something really special on Christmas Eve, so perhaps extra entries through pimping the contest will be granted, but I will let you know well in advance. For today, we will stick with the one entry per person rule.

Also, a couple of PSAs to wrap things up. First of all, I want to get this first half of the contest out in the mail sometime in the next day or two. That being said, if you've won something since we started and haven't gotten me your address, please do so. I'll be reaching out to those that I have contact information for.

Final PSA, the blog Cards My Mom Didn't Throw Out is running a contest until December 16 with a very generous prize package; get over there and give him a comment, follow, and friend request on the TCDB!

As always, thanks for reading and have a great week!

Wow. Not a big turnout for the hockey autographs yesterday. Maybe those just aren't people's forte. Regardless, I had two entries and two cards to giveaway. I went ahead and threw Kin and John's names into the randomizer, and the first name will get their pick of the two cards.

There were 2 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Kin
  2. John Sharp
Timestamp: 2017-12-10 16:22:19 UTC
You have randomized this list 9 times.

For the third day in a row, Kin comes out on top. Again, the only difference this makes is that Kin gets his choice of the Brind'Amour or the Adams. John has already mentioned in the comments that he plans on donating his card to Sigs for Soldiers, a great organization on Twitter that I recommend checking out.

Kin, once you get my response to the back and forth messages we're working with, let me know which card you want (or which one you want sent somewhere) and then John, I'll let you know as well.

Now, on to today. I'm not one to make a big deal out of days like this, but today happens to be my 23rd birthday. That being said, I want to make someone else a big winner today. This is probably one of the nicest cards up for grabs throughout these 25 days so hopefully we have a lot of entrants.

I'll admit, I was first thinking that this card was numbered 10/50 when I chose it for today. Turns out that it's 15/50, but who's counting? This sweet 2013 Topps - Silk Collection NNO Nelson Cruz card is going to someone out there. All you have to do to enter and win is leave me a comment below! The list will be randomized 10 times tomorrow morning and the first name will get this card! Editor's Note: The section in the middle with the silk card is actually clear; I happened to use black cardstock as a background to make sure the scan showed up okay.

As always, thanks for reading and participating in this contest; I've had a lot of fun so far and will continue to do so. I hope everyone has a great Sunday, and good luck on the Cruz card!

Post #62 - A Season of Giving, Day 9, Plus Army-Navy

Today (and this weekend) is very special to me. I'll get into tomorrow, tomorrow, but today is Army-Navy for the 118th time. I know that as primarily a baseball fan and blogger, I draw a big baseball viewership. But if you aren't familiar with Army-Navy, allow me to take a few moments before the givewaways for today.

The United States Military Academy and United States Naval Academy is the greatest rivalry in college football. While that's an opinion, I think you'll find few disagree. For the first time since 2012, both teams defeated the Air Force Academy and the Commander-in-Chief Trophy is on the line today. Last year, Army snapped a 14-year losing streak to Navy with their victory, and they look to make it two in a row today.

The players in this game know that their time with football is limited. Upon graduating from their Academy, they become commissioned officers in the Army or Navy. They do not play in the NFL; they don't sign million dollar shoe deals; they put their life on the line every day after graduation to serve their country.

This game has special meaning to me as well. In high school, my first college choice was the Naval Academy. My dad is a Navy veteran, and I wanted to add to that legacy. Upon denial (I failed my physical fitness test due to a broken collarbone from football season) I went to school in Iowa on scholarship to play baseball. However, I still re-applied the next year, and applied to West Point as well.

In January of my freshman year of college, I received the phone call that told me I was denied due to my hearing loss. Despite having the nomination from my Congressman, I wouldn't be able to attend my dream school. While applying to the two schools, I realized that I definitely preferred the life at West Point, and thus the newest Army fan was born!

If you've never watched the game, the pre-game pageantry, or gotten to truly appreciate Army-Navy, I do recommend that you take a look at it today. Kickoff is at 3:00 EST today, and GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!

Now, on to the giveaways for today. And yes, that is with an "s" at the end. First, let's take a look at who ended up with the Santo SP from yesterday.

There were 7 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Kin
  2. CaptKirk42
  3. TSHenson
  4. Clifford Wollaston
  5. John Sharp
  6. Jeff S.
  7. kcjays
Timestamp: 2017-12-09 16:34:48 UTC
You have randomized this list 8 times.

Congratulations to Kin for making it two in a row! I'm about to reply to yesterday's message on the TCDB, so go ahead and reply to that for today!

Now, as for today! In celebration of Army-Navy today, we're going to giveaway two cards! The first name on the list after randomizing nine times will have their choice of one of the two cards below. The last name will win the other card. So, yes, the first name to come up gets their choice of cards. Here they are:

We've got two autographed cards up for grabs. They are both TTM autos, so no guaranteed authenticity but I'm quite sure that they're real. The Brind'Amour is unfortunately very bubbly and slightly smeared so it really is not a great signature. He may be the more popular name, but the Adams signature is much cleaner. I'm providing Wikipedia links to Brind'Amour and Adams right here, so that if you're unfamiliar with them you can do some reading.

The list will get randomized tomorrow morning nine times, and the first name wins their choice of these two cards. The last name will win the other one. We have another fantastic giveaway tomorrow (back to one card) and will extend this celebration to Monday as well with another autograph giveaway!

As always, thanks for reading, I hope you get to enjoy the game today, and once again GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!
